 Welcome to the Year 2

         Home Learning Page

We have really enjoyed seeing you all on Teams this week and chatting about everything you have been doing. We are very impressed with the huge variety of activities and home learning you have been doing - well done!

Groups for Teams learning

Class 2JB

We hope you are enjoying your dinosaur-themed learning. This week in our Teams sessions, we would love to see some of the work you have produced for our special 'dinosaur park' week.

Please join if you can - the sessions will be:

Monday, 6th July @ 10.00am - Today I will show you some examples of Dinosaur Park maps children have produced in previous years and we can share ideas about what you could include in your own maps. We will also read some dinosaur poems together.

Wednesday, 8th July 10.00am - Today we will start by sharing some of your maps and see how you are getting on so far. If you have had any problems we will talk about these. We will also talk about 'similes' and check that everyone has some good ideas for their own poem.

Friday, 10th July 10.00am - Spelling Test - there are no new spellings to test, but we will choose 10 random Common Exception Words to test and then try a few Year 3 words. Show and Tell: Perhaps you would like to read out your dinosaur poem, or show us your completed Dinosaur Park map.

Dinosaur park plan.

This week we are planning our own dinosaur parks. This project will take you the whole week.

Read the instructions very carefully before you start to make sure you follow the rules.

Try a rough plan today of your park.

Use this sheet to help you map out where each dinosaur will go.

Listen to these dinosaur poems .

The brontosaurus:

The  sauropods:

Now read the ‘dinosaur swamp  stomp’.

Then collect words and phrases you like for your own poem on this sheet: Collecting ideas for dinosaur poems.

Just for fun: Listen to these dinosaur songs!

Tuesday

Today start drawing out your plan in neat.

Use this sheet to produce your final map.

Draw your dinosaur enclosures out carefully, use a ruler. Label each area as you go (copy dinosaur names carefully).

Remember to include your road which must be at least one square wide.

Today we are going to read another dinosaur poem ‘Roar’ .

Now answer questions about the poem.  There are 3 levels of questions to choose from, choose the one that you think will be right for you.

*** Higher level activity

**   Middle level activity

*     Lower level activity

Wednesday

Now -complete the key at the side of the sheet.

Colour each enclosure a different colour. You will need to colour the key the same colour.

Don’t forget to include a gift shop, diner and toilets for the visitors.

If you want to add other features you can, e.g. a play park, lake, forest, volcano, river, etc.

We would love to see your completed maps in our next Teams session.

Watch this little clip to start to understand what similes are.

Today we are going to write some similes that you could use in your dinosaur poem.

Use this simile sheet to help you.

Thursday

Finish your park today and make sure it is as neat as possible.

Then try the ‘Guidebook’ questions.

Today you are going to plan and write your dinosaur poem.

It might be about just one dinosaur or lots of different ones it is up to you.

You might like to use this poem as a scaffold to help you.

It might rhyme, but doesn't have to. Try to use lots of the interesting words that you collected on Monday and similes to help you.

Use the dinosaur lined paper to help you.

Friday

Ask an adult to test you on all the multiplication tables you are feeling confident with today (x2,x3,x4,x5 and x10) jumbling up the questions.

As we have had a Games theme this week you might like to try the Dinosaur bones huntbattleship game.

Spellings today – make sure that you have had a good look at them in your reading diary and practised:

Look, cover, write and check before the test.

Handwriting practice – You might like to copy out your poem in your best joined up writing to put up in your bedroom, perform it for your family  or send to someone you know!
