Saint John’s Year 5 HOMEWORK GRID for Space
(this type of homework is given out once every half term)
This half term your child will begin our Space topic
During this topic, in literacy we will look at books with a space theme and in Science we are exploring the solar system.
Choose from the following activities over the 2-week period with a minimum of 2 pieces required. Each task has a point system which will be added up over the year. Once the points are added up, you are then awarded a homework certificate.
The highlighted point system is a guide. Points awarded will be at the teacher’s discretion taking into consideration effort and presentation.
Evidence of completion can be recorded in the homework book in text, written confirmation or photographs. This homework is for week- 4th and 11th of September. To be handed in on Wednesday 16th September
TEACH YOUR Family
Choose a member of your family and teach them about the order of the planets in our solar system.
Find an article on Space and read to 2 family members or friends. Ask them to identify 3 facts they have learnt from you
Design and make your very own space mobile, rocket or spaceship!. This also needs a fact card as to what it is.
Use the internet to find out all you can about black holes, galaxies and constellations. Can sound travel through space? 5 points

Find out about space exploration. Who or what went to space first and why?
Write a short story/poem about an alien or an astronaut’s time in space. Remember to include description and a varied vocabulary. 7 points
Draw and/or paint an alien creature or a new planet! Give it an unusual name and write a paragraph about it. 8 points
