Deputy Headteacher Emily Sowinski

A message from Miss Sowinski:

With over 10 years of experience as a primary school teacher and a member of the senior leadership team, I am passionate about providing the highest standard of education in a nurturing, safe and supportive environment. Throughout my career, I have worked across Key Stages 1 and 2, as well as spending many years in EYFS settings. I hold a degree in early years education and following this, completed a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) with Qualified Teacher Status.

As Deputy Headteacher at St John's, I am deeply committed to fostering excellence in teaching and learning while shaping the school’s strategic vision. My role allows me to lead whole-school initiatives, work closely with teams and provide coaching and mentorship to staff, ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment. I also oversee the curriculum, guide subject leaders and uphold consistently high standards in classroom practice. In my capacity as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, I work to ensure safeguarding policies are effectively implemented across the school. Beyond my responsibilities at St John's, I am proud to contribute to the wider education community as a governor at another local primary school.

I am a firm believer in collaboration and work closely with colleagues across the school to promote a culture of continuous improvement. I believe in leading with openness, honesty, kindness and compassion—values that are integral to both teaching and leadership. I am a strong believer in the importance of a healthy work-life balance, both for myself and my team. I strive to create an environment where staff feel supported, empowered and motivated to do their best work, knowing that a balanced approach leads to greater success.
