Sport at St John's
At St John's we pride ourselves by offering
- a wide range of sporting opportunities to engage children in regular physical activity
- high quality sports teaching with a wide range of resources
- increased opportunities for children to take part in competitive sports
- promote healthy living
Additional funding received through the Government's Sports Funding initiative has enabled us to extended the range of sporting activities we offer to children as part of our breakfast, lunch and after school extra curricular clubs. We have offered sport such as: Multi-skills, Boys and Girls Football, Rounders, Hockey, Running, Athletics, Various Dance Classes, Tennis, Rugby, Netball, Cheerleading, New Age Kurling, Archery and Cricket. Our clubs have introduced new sports to children as well as supporting others in improving their skills and talents.
As well as inclusive training sessions open to all we have improved our involvement in competitive sports by offering specific coaching and trials to those who have a particular sporting talent. We have taken part in School Games events and festivals, regional sports leagues and interschool tournaments.
As well as looking at offering sporting opportunities we are also looking at long term strategies to sustain sports and physical development.
