School Caretaker
Part Time Permanent role
20 hours a week 7am to 11am Monday to Friday (some flexibility required)
The contract is 52 weeks per year less holiday entitlement
The role will include varying aspects of facilities management making it an interesting and varied role. We regularly have ongoing maintenance and building improvement works, where good construction skills are required, such as general building, carpentry or plumbing skills. Examples of the types of works you might be involved in include: daily checks of the building and grounds to make sure they are safe for our school community, maintaining plumbing of toilets and fixing any issues, weekly flushing of pipework, checking of drains, maintenance of fences and sheds, ensuring fire systems and emergency lights are working correctly, working on slightly larger projects, for example laying a concrete foundation.
The successful candidate will also be involved in ongoing site maintenance requirements which might include cutting grass, painting and decorating, site security, opening up the premises and responding to alarm call outs. The Caretaker needs to ensure that the school site is clean, safe and ready for the staff and children who work and learn in it each day.
The successful candidate will report to the School Business Manager and work closely with them to help manage the site. We are seeking someone who is adaptive, patient and talented, a great team player and a good communicator. Self-motivation and a pride in their work will be equally vital to ensure high standards of workmanship.
You will need to be able to drive and own a car as occasionally you will need to make collections or deliveries. We wish to employ someone for 20 hours per week, usually between 7am and 11am all year round on a permanent basis, although you do need to be a little flexible on occasions. The salary scale for this position will be Grade 4. Pro-rata to part time for this role would give a salary of between approximately £12,915 and £13,578 depending on experience.
